EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Walker-Adams has delivered ‘hands on’ educational experiences at our race track and provided team support to the University Formula Student Program.
Walker-Adams now provides a practical automotive engineering experience direct to educational settings . This is an ideal experience for young people and students interested in STEM and/or motorsport.
Activities can be tailored for Secondary Age Pupils ( Years 9 -11); 6th Form and College Students, and University Students
Using one of our proven vehicle chassis, we can set up at your site and provide a range of practical learning activities based on the principles of automotive engineering and motorsport . The activities are tailored to the age group and can include:
A mechanical focus: Assembly of a vehicle suspension system. This includes:
-Overview of the system’s components and how they work
-Building a suspension corner in teams, using hand tools.
-Learning how to set up suspension parameters to achieve performance
An electrical focus: Assembly of a vehicle electronic system ( e.g. vehicle lights)
-Overview of wiring and how it works
-Creation of a basic lighting circuit and wiring loom using hand tools
-Testing the circuit and loom on the vehicle to see if the lights work under the correct switches.
-
Pit Stop Challenge: This adds a fun and motivating competitive element to the learning.
-In teams of three, students will be timed changing a wheel ( NASCAR style).
-Depending on student age, the challenge is done from a rolling chassis or static chassis.

Vehicle Exit Challenge:
-In the world of competitive motorsport, the driver must exit the vehicle in 5 seconds in an emergency.
-Students will be strapped in to the vehicle, wearing safety helmet and race gloves and timed to see who can exit the vehicle the quickest.

We can also cover : vehicle packaging, powertrain, bodywork assembly and design.
